My little sister is 8 and would like to start horse riding?
My little sister is 8 years old and she wants to start horse riding, would she be ok learning that late on? is it best just to give her lessons or should we buy her a horse with no lessons and then let her learn on her own horse?
Thanks

I got my first pony and would not wait for lessons or the pony to even grow up. Jumped on and kept on going. Fell off, got back on. Got kicked, got back on. Fell off at least 35 more times. Got back on. I learned how to sit a horse well (because my pony bucked, ran away and reared all the time) but in looking back, I would have been a better rider had I had lessons from the get go. I started taking lessons in my 20s and realized what I missed by not having them when I was young.
its better for her to take lessons. especially at her young, current age, to prevent injuries
its better to give her lessons first. she needs to be able to know how to put the saddle on properly, brush the horse, feed it and how to give slack when riding. make sure she doesnt yell around the horse. its how i learned. i now have my own horse, Secret. shes kinda stupid sometimes but she’s sweet. when you do get her a horse, let her connect to it and get to know it before she starts riding her own horse. have her walk it around in a pen and giving it treats it likes. my horse likes peppermints or sugar cubes. hope i helped
I started riding lessons when I was 8, I am still going today, and I am a good rider, if I do say so myself!
I know every little girl who goes riding wants there own pony, but unless you have someone in the family who is an experienced horse rider and can teach her how to ride and look after her horse, it would be best to start her off with riding lessons just so that she can get the hang of things. Also, more importantly, you don’t want to buy her a horse then have her decide she doesn’t like riding anymore!
I think the best thing to do would be to see exactly how determined she is to carry on with this hobby before you decide, and also make sure that she knows how much hard work having a horse can be!
give her lessons first as after awhile she might not like riding horses,,she should be ok learning that late
